Bentley makes it eight straight for Denise's Joy family

By Clinton Payne - 25 February 2006

The striking chestnut Bentley Biscuit (Peintre Celebre Tycoon Joy (Last Tycoon Christmas Spirit) extended his unbeaten streak to eight with a tenacious win in the Winning Edge Presentations Handicap (1100m) at Rosehill today.

Bentley Biscuit travelled further back than normal due to the high speed being set by the noted front runner Mystical Ring who was running along in his usual free going fashion.

Approaching the home turn Bentley Biscuit was eased four and five wide by apprentice Tim Clark and the four-year-old gelding extended powerfully and proved too strong in a blanket finish for another fast finisher Picket Fence and Mindreader.

Bentley Biscuit 61.5kg ($2.40 SP) (T.Clark a3) defeated Picket Fence 54kg () () by a half neck with Mindreader 57.5kg ($9 SP) (Z.Purton) a long neck away in third.

The time for the race was 1.03.04 (last 600m in 33.93).

He did what he had to do,” Bentley Biscuit’s trainer Gai Waterhouse said.

From the turn the result was never really in doubt.

I must admit he did give me goose bumps today.”

Bentley Biscuit who has been magnificently placed during his career to-date will start to be asked some serious questions for the remainder of the autumn with him now likely to step into stakes company for the first time.

The Doncaster and the Queen Elizabeth are his main aims,” Waterhouse said.

He’s been a bit immature so I’ve kept him to the shorter distances but he’s ready
to step up now.”
