Bentley Biscuit Grabs His Third Group 1

Star sprinter Bentley Biscuit claimed a thrilling win in the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben on Saturday.

Ridden by Nash Rawiller, who has made it three Group 1 wins from three rides on the five-year-old son of Peintre Celebre, he brought him from last on the home turn near the inside rail to overhaul sprint king Takeover Target in the final 50m to score a memorable win.

At their previous two outings Bentley Biscuit and Rawiller had won the TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) and the All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick over the Easter Carnival.

While those that backed Bentley Biscuit would have almost given up hope at the 150m when their charge was still trying to a weave a passge through the field and go out after Takeover Target, who looked to have the race won after shooting clear, it wasn’t long before they again raised their hopes. At the 50m mark ‘The Biscuit’ displayed an amazing turn of foot to reel in Takeover Target and lock himself in for a trip to Royal Ascot to contest the English legs of the Global Sprint Challenge in late June.

Trainer Gai Waterhouse said she was always confident the gelding could get there.

I knew he’d be able to turn the tap (and accellerate), because that’s what the Biscuit does,” she said.

He’s just so exciting!”

The horse will leap over trenches, will jump out of them, will do anything else, provided one grants him praise and respite after his accomplishment.
