Comments
A nice all-round young gelding. With his pedigree he should suit campdrafting or just make a good all round horse. He is kind, relaxed and sensible and he is the sort of horse who will become a real friend to his new owner.
“We started Webke as a late yearling and he took to work under saddle like a duck to water. He is very kind and really tries to please you. He was taken along slowly and quietly and he is now out spelling and growing up. He is very typical of his dam’s family and he has a very casual, laid back attitude to life. I think he would really suit someone who wants a real mate to share their lives with for a long, long time.”
This horse was started at Finch Farm, owned by David Finch. David is currently EFA Coach of the Year, and his protegee Robert Moffart – who starts and rides all the young horses – is a World Cup Showjumper. He grew up on a property in the Qld bush and won the Brisbane Exhibition World Cup in 2007 as well as numerous Grand Prix wins at major shows across Australia. While Roberts sights are set on the Olympics, he is also a full time trainer of performance horses for a wide number of disciplines.
“He is a sweet natured little horse. He was still only a yearling when I started him, but he was willing to please you and very easy to handle and to ride. He will make a good friend and a good all-rounder, the sort of horse you can just jump on and ride.”
Pedigree

Sire
Conatus
He’s the Danehill son with the kind of explosive speed that burnt up the racetracks and set two dazzling class records. He’s the Australian son and heir to the extraordinary Denise’s Joy family, and when it comes to speed he has it all wrapped up: Danehill, Rory’s Jester, Bletchingly and two crosses of Star Kingdom.
In a racing season shut down by EI, his 2YO’s kept setting impressive trial results no matter where they started. So far he has had 8 to race with 1 winner (Tuscon Rain) and 1 place. Trainers have admitted they have kept them on a tight hold.
As a yearling, Conatus was sold for $650,000 at the Gold Coast Magic Millions. He is one of the highest priced colts ever sold by Baramul Stud.
Conatus is the classic powerhouse sprinter with heavy, deep muscling and a massive hindquarter. He carries the unmistakable stamp of his sire Danehill. He is a rich bay with one white sock and a small star. He stands 15.3 hh and is short backed, athletic and well balanced with good bone. He has good legs and feet.
Conatus is a pleasure to handle and work with. He is intelligent and responsive with his handlers.
He has thrown particularly impressive 2YO’s, yearlings and weanlings. They have good length of rein, nice sloping shoulders, good legs and feet. Some respected judges have expressed the opinion that he has upgraded his foals by a considerable margin. He has also upgraded his mares and stamped his type on his foals very evenly.
His foals are mostly bays. There are a few chestnuts that show the unmistakable stamp of Rory’s Jester, the sire of his dam Light Up The World, with the familiar white splashy blaze and socks. His foals are kind and intelligent to handle and are remarkably quick learners.
Dam
First Dam
Nonda Swoon
This is a particularly lovely daughter of Doc’s Freckles Oak. She is very feminine, attractive and correct. A number of good judges have described her as a copybook broodmare in every sense. She has produced a number of outstanding foals since she went to stud.
Second Dam
Nonda Songlines
A big upstanding mare by Doc’s Boab, full brother to Doc’s Spinifex. Produced Nonda Swoon in a limited career at stud.
Third Dam
Star Carousel
Ian Francis, champion trainer of Australia and one of the greatest all-round horsemen in our history (he has won won multiple NCHA Futurities and Derbies, multiple NRHA Futuries and Derbies, multiple Cloncurry Stockmen’s Challenges, etc), still considers Star Carousel to be one of the very best horses he ever rode. She won Champion Led ASHS Filly at Brisbane Royal as a 2YO, won the Moonbi Cowhorse Futurity as a 3YO and the famous Cloncurry Stockmans Challenge as a 4YO. She was retired to stud after the win and later produced a number of outstanding colts, including Nonda Yothu Yindi, winner of the Stallion Draft at the ASHS Nationals, etc.
Star Carousel was also a sister to Bruce McNaughtons Music, making this one of the most celebrated camp draft families in Australia.
Fourth Dam
Glenna’s Daughter
Glenna’s Daughter, legendary broodmare bred by the great master breeder, Mr Ventry McClennen. She was the dam of such champions of the breed as Bruce McNaughtons campdrafter Music and the champion mare Carousel (ridden by Ian Francis) winner of the Cloncurry Stockman’s Challenge, Moonbi Cowhorse Futurity.
Fifth Dam
Glenna
This remarkable mare bred by Ventry McClennan, produced her own dynasty of champion horses including Maxine Brooks’ Yarranoo Dark Glen and others. Her daughter, Glenna’s Daughter, produced Bruce McNaughton brilliant campdrafter Music and Star Carousel, winner of the Cloncurry Stockman’s Challenge. Glenna has been nominated by the ASHS as a major Foundation Mare.
