Verballed too nippy for rivals
Daily Telegraph - 20 March 2010
Lightly-raced filly Verballed signalled she had a bright future when she bounced back from a first-up failure to score an all-the-way win at Rosehill.
The three-year-old missed a place for the first time when sixth to Winter King in the Fireball Quality at Rosehill last month but trainer Neville Voigt was confident she could atone on Saturday after a sparkling midweek track gallop.
“I thought she would win the other day and I still can’t work out the run, it was so bad,” Voigt said.
“Personally, I thought she would be hard to beat today, she worked so well on Tuesday morning.”
Glen Boss bounced Verballed ($9.50) to the front from her midfield draw and she found plenty to win the Bacardi Breezer Hcp (1100m) by a half-length from the fast-finishing Sweepstaking ($7.50) with Lagerphone ($21) also doing her best work late for third, another long neck away.
Voigt is poised to go into a training partnership with his son Chris in the near future and is looking forward to the challenge.
