Sunday Strikes Gold
24 April 2007
While its early days yet, another impressive near-black filly has stepped out in fine style for Sunday Knight.
Our Gold Night, a 2YO brown/black filly out of Julie Po (Tong Po) won her first trial at Eagle Farm this morning (24/04/2007). The filly, who is trained by Kelly Schweida covered the 800m distance in 47.36 seconds and won by nearly a length.
The filly was bred by Ms Robyn Morris who sold her to the Gold Club Syndicate. The filly was outstanding right from birth and was wildly considered to be one of the best looking fillies by Sunday Knight in his first crop.
Mythical Memory, who is another near-black filly by Sunday Knight, is still enjoying her spell at Plaintree Farms. She will resume work in the next few weeks. Like Our Gold Night, Mythical Memory, also won her first trial in brilliant fashion and beat the talented Carry of Kosa into second place.
Mythical Memory later ran second at her first start in Toowoomba after jumping wide out of Barrier 8 and working hard to come across the field. The fillies run impressed all the good judges who have now earmarked her as a serious filly to watch in the future.
While most Australian breeders tend to believe that the Sunday Silence bloodline has mostly produced world class classic runners, the truth is that Sunday Silence was also the leading 2YO in Japan for many years.
The brilliant speed being exhibited in shown by both Mythical Memory and Our Gold Night comes as no surprise when you take a look at the female family of Sunday Knight. His dam, Wrap Around, is a Group 1 winner, while the rest of her family includes her half sister, Rose of Danehill (G2), her dam Beach Gown (G2) and her granddaughter, Fashions Afield (G1)
Sunday Knight also carries a double cross of the great Star Kingdom, one of our most significant speed influences ever seen in Australian breeding.
