Sunday Silence still dominating

By Mark Smith - 16 August 2005

Danehill looks to have found a successor in Australia in Redoute¹s Choice. Sadler¹s Wells looks to have a successor in Europe in Montjeu and Storm Cat looks to have a successor in Giant¹s Causeway. But is there a son of Sunday Silence in Japan that is capable of matching the extraordinary feats of their sire?

The ill-fated son of Halo dominated the Queen Stakes (Jpn G3) for fillies and mares at Sapporo on Sunday. The winner was Les Clefs D’Or (Sunday Silence) over Heavenly Romance (Sunday Silence) and Cheerful Smile (Sunday Silence). Then followed Daring Heart (Sunday Silence), Er Nova (Sunday Silence), and Fjord Cruise (Sunday Silence). Dear Chance (Taiki Shuttle) proved the spoiler, edging out Oka Sho (Jpn G1) heroine Dance In The Mood (Sunday Silence) for seventh place.

Sunday Silence is again a runaway leader on the Japanese General Sires List. He has four son in the top ten including Dance In The Dark, Special Week and Fuji Kiseki and Bubble Gum Fellow both of whom spent time at stud in Australia.

If buyers at the recent foal sale are on the mark, the son of Sunday Silence to look out for in the future is Agnes Tachyon, who currently leads the first season sires list from another son of Sunday Silence, Meisho Odo.
