Punch Up in knockout race debut

Bart Sinclair - Courier Mail (23/07/07) - 26 July 2007

The well named Punch Up scored an impressive debut win at the Gold Coast on Saturday and looks a good marketing tool for his freshman sire Sunday Knight.

Punch Up, from the Geiger Counter mare School Blue, is from the first crop of Sunday Knight who stands at David and Heather Pascoe’s Plaintree Farm on the Darling Downs.

Sunday Knight is a Sunday Silence horse from the Group 1-winning mare Wrap Around.

Because of an early injury, Sunday Knight was unraced although he showed promise in a barrier trial in Sydney.

Arrowfield Stud principal John Messara sent Sunday Knight to Plaintree in the hope he might attract more broodmare support than in the tough competition in the Hunter Valley.

Sunday Knight, who stands at a modest $4,400, served only 36 mares last season but as word spreads he is expected to attract many more this spring.
