Marunouchi Keeps The Flag Flying!

11 April 2008

West Australian Trainer, Phil Grantham has done it again at Ascot with the talented 3YO Sunday Knight Gelding, Marunouchi.

In a $50,000 3YO Handicap over 1200m at Ascot on Saturday 6th April, Marunouchi outclassed his opposition to win the race by a margin of 1.75.

It was the first time in his short career that he has drawn the rails and he certainly used it to his advantage jumping well and holding his position back third on the rails with cover outside. As soon as they hit the home turn, he kicked and raced away for a very soft win.

This makes Marunouchi’s career statistics to date at 5 starts for 3 wins with a total of $ 53,775 worth of prizemoney.

The horse has started to gather a following in Perth and he has also attracted the attention of the Perth racing media. He has a full yearling brother still in the same paddock at Plaintree Farms where Marunouchi grew up before he was sent across to Perth as a rising 2YO. His dam Flower Dancer, is back in foal to Sunday Knight for a full relation.

The hooves of a horse! Oh! Witching and sweet is the music earth steals from the iron-shod feet; no whisper of love, no trilling of bird can stir me as hooves of the horse have stirred.
