IT’S RAINING WINNERS!

28 December 2007

It must be summer in Queensland. The cyclones are brewing, the storm clouds are building – and it’s suddenly raining winners!

The impressive all-the way win by Marunuochi (Sunday Knight – Flower Dancer) at Bunbury, WA on Wednesday (26/12/07) not only announced a serious young horse with a big future but continued the dazzling run of winners from the first crop of Sunday Knight.

Sunday Knight has now had 16 starters from his first crop for 4 winners and 6 placegetters – an impressive 25% runners to winners and 62.5% earners to runners.

Marunouchi was bred and raised at Plaintree Farms and later sent across to trainer Peter Giadresco in Bunbury when he was a rising 2YO.

His Hong Kong based breeder and owner Gary Brown had formerly worked in Japan – Marunuochi is the business district of Tokyo – and was a passionate follower of the legendary Sunday Silence, the sire of Sunday Knight. Brown had personally attended race-meetings in Japan and was amazed by both the extraordinary ability of both the Sunday Silence horses and the public mania around the stallion himself.

Despite being based in Hong Kong, Brown was determined to breed himself his own champion racehorse one day and made the decision to send his mare Flower Dancer across to Plaintree from WA to be covered by Sunday Knight in his first season.

Flower Dancer (Serheed) won five races in the West and also produced the eight time winner Yosheea. Her second dam Daffodil is a half sister to Hialeah, dam of the stakeswinners Imposing (AJC George Main S, Epsom H, Stradbroke H, etc) and Charity (AJC Champagne Stakes).
