Bentley Biscuit' sire has son at Mudgee stud
By Brian Russell - 18 May 2007
Peintre Celebre, the Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe winner who is sire of triple Group1 winner Bentley Biscuit, could be a wonderful asset as broodmare sire and breeders could do well also to consider using a son, Fiery Match, who is available on a low fee at Dennis Doble’s Norman Park Stud at Cooyal near Mudgee, NSW.
Fiery Match was unraced, but he is an impressive individual to look at, very much like his sire but bigger, standing just on 17.0 hands. He also has impressive maternal credentials, including being a half-brother to Rose of Danehill (a Danehill triple Group 2 winner and MRC Thousand Guineas-Gr.1 and Blue Diamond Stakes-Gr.1 second) and Wrap Around (by Bletchingly; seven wins including the MRC William Reid Stakes-Gr.1, VRC Linlithgow Stakes-Gr.2; second MVRC Manikato Stakes-Gr.1 and third in both the MRC Futurity Stakes-Gr.1 and VRC Lightning Stakes-Gr.1).
Wrap Around was sent to Japan and mated with their giant of breeding Sunday Silence to southern hemisphere time to produce the eye-catching near black colt Sunday Knight. Unfortunately he was not afforded the opportunity to live up to his impeccable breeding on the racetrack, going to stud unraced. He is standing by arrangement with Arrowfield with Conatus at Plaintree Farms.
The first crop of Sunday Knight are two-year-olds but only six have raced, four of these earning prize money. Others have won or placed in trials and Plantree Farms’ Heather Pascoe is confident of some good efforts from the first three-year-olds.
Wrap Around is also the grandam of the magnificent Redoute’s Choice filly Fashions Afield, a Waterhouse trained winner of six races and earner of $1,857,510. Her Group1 performances have included wins in the AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes and Flight Stakes and seconds in the AJC ChampagneStakes and STC Golden Slipper.
Wrap Around, Rose of Danehill and Fiery Match are all from Beach Gown, a speedy dual Group 3 winner by Cerreto (IRE), an Italian Derby-Gr.1 winner who has been a valuable broodmare sire from use in Victoria. Other Group1 performers from his daughters are Fields of Omagh, Cheviot, Malcolm and Dapper’s Hope.
Beach Gown was a half-brother to Beach Boy (15 wins, five listed stakes; third Doomben 10,000-Gr.1) and to Casualty, grandam of Ambulance (won QTC Sires’ Produce Stakes-Gr.1; second STC Ranvet Stakes-Gr,1, AJC Chipping Norton Stakes-Gr,1; third AJC Doncaster Handicap-Gr.1, QTC T.J. Smith Classic-Gr.1).
It is also the family that produced Blue’s Finito, winner of 23 races, including the Doomben10,000, and sire of over 100 winners including the dashing Tiny’s Finito. He ran 83 times and won a massive 40 races, including eight stakes, and included among placings a third in the Doomben10,000.
