About Us › a woman's horse

I wonder if you’ve ever heard that old expression a woman’s horse?

We have, and it always makes us laugh when we suddenly hear a man start muttering it under his breath.

Because we happen to own a few women’s horses ourselves. And because we like to encourage women to step into their rightful place as major owners and breeders in the Australian thoroughbred industry.

Women have a remarkable history in the Australian horse industry, and not only as breeders, trainers, and jockeys in the racing industry.

In fact, they’ve held their own in the saddle since the earliest days of Australian settlement: buckjump rider, Vi Skuthorpe, drovers Red Nell and Edna Jessop, campdrafters Bess and May Scott and Christine Hall, Olympians Vicky Roycroft, Gillian Roulton and Wendy Schaffer – and the list goes on.

They have always been brave, passionate and dedicated, and they have long been the unsung heroines of the horse industry.

We think all their love and hard work in the thoroughbred industry finally deserves to be rewarded. And there is simply no better way of doing it than to encourage a new generation of Australian women to step up into the sport themselves.

PLAINTREE is proud to count a considerable and rapidly growing number of women amongst our very special clients. And we’re very happy to help even more women become a part of our exciting industry with some honest, old fashioned and very practical advice.

If we can help in any way, please feel free to call, email – or just drop in for a coffee.

Remember, it’s your life. And it’s your passion.

A dog looks up to you. A cat looks down on you. But a horse looks at you and sees an equal.
